FEC College Student Financial Wellness (mini session - Financial Wellness)

Thursday, April 16th, 2026 from 2:00pm to 3:15pm (ET)
Genaro Escobar

During this elaborative discussion on financial wellness, the speaker spoke about cognitive tax to which students are too stressed from facing financial difficulties to the point they can't concentrate on their coursework. They related many topics back to mental health and to keep every aspect of finance with meticulousness to avoid stress now or later on in life. I did stay a bit longer as the speaker did share more on stocks and demonstrated us the value stocks can have. He used CocaCola stocks bought in early 2000's for mere cents as example and how overtime they became over a million dollars. The importance of being financially educated to grow wealth along with you.

I learned a lot from this meeting about what people go through whenever they are facing financial issues in their life before or in college. I learn that doing activities like going outside, doing relaxing things, or reflecting on the things I have done can help me in letting my stress go on things I worried about.

After attending this session, I learned about financial management and situations people go through. I always knew that finance and school were a problem if the cost is too much but I didn’t know it would take such a mental toll if you have jobs, family life and other things going on life. Great session!
