Description
Aurora Homeless Connect is a free resource fair for individuals and families at-risk or experiencing homelessness in the Aurora area. During this one day event, guests are able to access an array of services ranging from ID services, housing services, clothing banks, vision check, healthcare, veterans services, pet care and much more. This event will jointly be celebrating the opening of the Day Resource Center and home for our event.  We hope to see a couple hundred guests and need nearly as many volunteers to make the day a success. Please join us on June 27th as we help our most vulnerable population access the resources they need to become self-sufficient for themselves and their families.


Requirements
Volunteers will receive a t-shirt upon check-in and should plan to wear that t-shirt for the duration of their volunteer shift. If you attend an in-person training you're welcome to collect your t-shirt at that date/time but will need to wear it to the event as we will not have extras.
PerksLunch will be provided to all attending the event and all volunteers will receive a t-shirt.
Parking DetailsWe highly encourage you to carpool, utilize public transportation or a car service like Uber/Lyft. Parking will be available around the DRC however on a first come, first serve. There will also be street parking available and parking garages in the area. The new Light rail R-Line has 2 stops (Fitzsimons and Colfax) just under a mile to the DRC as well.

There will be a bag-check area where guests can leave their belongings while they navigate services. Volunteers will receive items, ticket them and give the corresponding ticket to the guest for pick-up after they are done receiving services. This area also serves as lost and found. Please plan to stay until all participants are gone.

Please note: This area is strictly for checking guest items. There is no bag/coat check for volunteers.

Greet and assist resource providers (those giving/providing the specific services to guests) as they arrive. Help with loading and delivering of items from provider cars to their stations. Offer provider assistance as needed throughout the day including bringing food, water and supplies as needed to the provider staff.

Volunteers are paired one-on-one with guests to help them prioritize and navigate the services provided. Volunteers assist with filling out the guest intake survey form and accompany guests to different service areas. Volunteers should plan to stay with their guest from the time the guest arrives to the time the guest leaves. If a volunteer finishes with one guest before the end of their shift, they are encouraged to assist another guest.

Please note: Guest services is split into two shifts but if you want to extend your time as a guest service volunteer please feel free to stay.

There will be an information desk at the event. 2 volunteers will staff the information desk and provide assistance to guests, volunteers and service providers. This may include handing out maps, resource materials, fielding FAQ's and general event information.

Volunteers will be responsible for assisting with lunch service to all guests, volunteers and service providers. Ensure that the lunch area remains clean of debris and welcoming to the next guests.

All guests are given a goodie bag filled with hygiene items before they leave for the day. Volunteers are needed to hand out the bags to guests, organize the bags and ensure that the hygiene table stays clean, organized and empty of debris.

Assist with tear-down after the event is over. Includes leading supplies from the center to vehicles outside the venue, tearing down signs, gathering clipboards and breaking down tables and chairs. Tear-down will begin at 3 PM and the more people that help, the faster it will be done!
