It was a great experience leading the volunteering event with VRC for the service we provided to Sister Carmen Community Center. I ensured that all the volunteers get a glimpse of what service we are going to do and gave an introduction of the community partner that we were gonna serve. It was also good to learn about Sister Carmen Community Center and about their community services from their Volunteer Coordinator. We were volunteering at their Thrift Store in sorting the donations and organizing them in the shelves while people were purchasing. Felt good as it was helping people find the right things to purchase and get rid of old/broken/worn-out items as we were organizing them. At the end of the service event, fromt he Reflection portion, got some valuable feebacks and suggestions from the volunteers about the service they have provided. Overall, it was a wonderful day to serve and spend some time for the community betterment.
It was good to connect with Cultivate once again in the year for one of their different program "YardBusters". I had worked with them for another program called "Carry-out Caravan" during the Spring. All volunteers showed their skills on gardening, weeding, and yard-cleaning while helping the senior community members and clients of Cultivate. The senior members had a continuous check on us and how we are doing and provided everyone with good care. Lastly, it was so sweet of one of the senior member to treat every one of us with a bunch of homemade hot-cookies which made the day!
It was good to Volunteer again for Garden to Table. New learnings this time and new volunteers.... It was fun. Had a great time together. Feeling good that we create a positive impact by cleaning the garden which is good for the students of the elementary school and also for the environment as we collected good amount of compost waste which are gonna be a good manure in near future.
My 2nd time volunteering with Ralphie's Green Stampede. It was more intensive than my previous experience because of the place where I was situated. But when it came to the trash, people were more clear in which trash goes where especially the beer cans which are recyclable. There was a confusion as compost was not chosen to be put in "compost" by the Green Stampede team. That was one of the difficulty which I faced and it is going to be hard for the people who are going to segregate the waste. So next time I would prefer to have one extra bin for compostable waste other than food waste. Also, some kind of informative campaign which gives some goodies to people who trash it right would create more awareness on zero-waste programs.
Got to learn more about The Precious Child organisation and their care towards everyone!
